DAY TWO: Tour 127330969, 4th Grade Sacramento Tour
With our smiling ladies in the foreground, you can definitely get an idea of the mammoth size of Cab Forward Engine #4294. It’s an oil burner designed in 1901, weighing in at 657,900 lbs. and affectionately known to us as “Darth Vader.” Students at the ‘Last Spike’ painting in the RR Museum. The scene is very well known, but this particular painting has several elements of artistic license that are fun to uncover. Tisha Eve works the telegraph at the Wells Fargo History Museum in Old Town. Kids have a dance party sensation in the evening, as well as the ‘girls vs. the boys’ karaoke contest!...
DAY ONE: Tour 127330969, 4th Grade Sacramento Tour
On the way up through California’s San Joaquin Valley we watched Shrek and Cool Runnings for fun before we began reviewing our Edventure handbooks. We also saw two movies that prepared us for our visit to the State Capitol building. When we arrived at the Capitol grounds, there was no rain and we had a very pleasant outdoor tour of the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It was beautiful. Shortly after we began our indoor tour of the Capitol, it began to pour rain outside. It was nice to visit Assemblyman Jeff Miller’s office. He could meet with us; however, his staff provided wonderfully personalized certificates that we bringing home with us. UPDATE: 6:50 a.m. – DEPARTURE FROM SCHOOL. Tour is underway. The Red Hill Lutheran School group is awesome! Everyone arrived right on time for an early morning departure. Kids excited and ready for their long awaited trip to begin. But unknown to all, mechanical troubles that morning behind the scenes had drastically delayed the driver’s departure. Mechanical failures (of some sort) on two buses had now required a third bus to be engaged. This difficult situation; however, has not dampened the spirits of the kids.
