Day 4 -Wednesday, St. John’s Lutheran East Coast Tour
Girls make good soldiers, too. A bit rainy at times this morning. Our tour expert battlefield guide (Mike) is outstanding. St. John’s students and parents on the summit of Little Round Top, site of the Union Army’s critically important day two victory during the three day Battle of Gettysburg. Cold but clear, weather holding. Jack Whitaker reads the Gettysburg Address at Gettysburg Cemetery, on the exact spot that Abraham Lincoln his famous 2 minute speech. To honor the memory of Abraham Lincoln, St. John’s students place a penny on the Lincoln Memorial Statue at the cemetery! We are now 2 hours from NYC….looking forward to pizza and a Broadway Show...
Day 3, Tuesday: St. John’s Lutheran Tour
This has been a big day of touring. Seeing the spectacular and historic capitol building is always a highlight, especially for first timers. The rotunda is itself is a breaktaking site. But St. John’s had the added priviledge and pleasure of meeting Congressman Ed Royce in person and have him address the students on the steps of the House of Representatives. Day 1, Sunday: St. John’s Lutheran Tour
St. John’s students enjoyed their visit to the FDR Memorial and took 2 approxmately million pictures! Students were engaged, the weather was accommodating and the trip was off to a terrific beginning. Students pause outside of the American History Museum….Star Spangled Banner was a highlight! St. John’s students lay an honor wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier…..in the rain. They participated perfectly! “After a great sea-food buffet, St. John’s made one last stop, at the Iwo Jima Marine Memorial….
