Day Three – Tour 119331554, 3-Day Tour to San Francisco / Sacramento / Coloma
FLIGHT TO ORANGE COUNTY IS ON TIME. SOUTHWEST FLIGHT # 154 . ARRIVAL ANTICIPATED AT 7:50pm As you can tell, our flight is on time and all systems are GO! We loved this trip! Everything was wonderful and we hope to be coming home to nice weather. See you soon! Talk about helpful. This cute junior flight attendant is earning big points with the passengers, crew, and Mom too! Afternoon Pictures: Our last teaching experience was called ‘Wagon’s Ho’ where we learned how to load a covered wagon just as if we were on our way west. All the people were so nice to us! Before we begin our adventure, we had a nice barbecue chicken lunch. We didn’t get rich, but we had great fun getting wet as we panned for gold! We learned a lot as we tried to find the shiney metal. MORNING ACTIVITES: Well, it’s a good thing we had a hearty breakfast this morning. We’ve got our hardhats secured and ready for some manual labor – – bring it on. CVCS students in front of the Priest Mine, about to learn about hard rock mining. Gold in quartz, and the miners had to get it out. We wonder if we’ll find any gold. Our tour guide, Bev, pointing out some of the dangers of being a miner….specifically, poison oak. The well known rhyme is important advice, “Leaves of three, let them be!” Loading the bus getting ready to go to Sutter’s Mill in Coloma,...
Day Two – Tour 119331554, 3-Day Tour to San Francisco / Sacramento / Coloma
After a great night’s sleep, we had a nice ‘continental breakfast’ and then drove to Sonoma where we visited the California Missions Museum. Our docent, Diane, was very nice, and we learned a lot about the missions on the El Camino Real. Our trip to the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield was TASTY! Sorry, no pictures allowed in the factory, but here our students are in front of a picture of former California Governor and U.S. President Ronald Reagan made completely out of Jelly Bellies. President Ronald Reagan helped put the city of Fairfield on the map. This is a great day to have lunch together on the Capitol lawn surrounding by many beautiful, tall, and stately (no pun intended) trees. There are nearly 200 types of trees, shrubs, and flowers from all over the world planted on the capitol grounds park. They include different species of citrus, oaks, maples, gums, sycamores, palms, and evergreens. Not to mention that many of the trees are especially good for climbing. 🙂 Mrs. Francis’ class strikes a handsome pose at the Capitol. Our tour director (Esther, out of picture) speaks to our group while inside the Assembly Gallery. She quips that the room is painted green because the state “wants your money.” More importantly, she discusses the roles and workings of California’s bicameral legislature and how a bill can become a law Some very nice people gave ice cream to our ENTIRE group after our capitol visit. Wow! That was so cool...
Day One – Tour 119331554, 3-Day Tour to San Francisco / Sacramento / Coloma
Our Flight out of John Wayne Airport was ON-TIME and everyone was onboard. Flight arrived safely. It’s a beautiful day in San Francisco and the tour is running right on time. Group arrived at the Exploritorium ON-TIME and excited about their visit. All is well. What a great start to our trip. The San Francisco Exploratorium is an awesome “hands-on” experience. Science is fun if you don’t know it’s science. Jake and his mom are playing with a funnel cloud. Karson and Nick making their test and checking it twice. Some beautiful smiles on the ferry between San Francisco and the infamous Island of Alcatraz. More smiles…..glad we didn’t have a one way ticket to ‘The Rock’ . We had a much happier time than many of the inmates that we learned about during our tour. Heading back to more fun on the mainland, lots more to see! The ‘optional’ cable car ride in San Francisco was an absolute hit…especially with the girls whose squeals were louder than the cable car brakes! Mrs. Francis’ class loves San...
